Design Your Own Foundation Paper Pieced Patterns

Go from idea to pattern to completed quilt without fancy software or design experience!

This is what you've been looking for!

Foundation paper piecing means that ANYTHING can be made into a quilt- the limitations of traditional piecing aren’t a barrier. But learning how to design FPP patterns seems like sacred knowledge, so hard to learn and held close to the vest by those that do it. You have so many ideas and images that would make great quilts but no way to make them into an actual, beautiful quilt. This class will demystify the process of creating FPP patterns- anyone can learn to do it! And once you learn, you can create just about anything you can imagine.

Available for a limited time

This is a one-of-a-kind course, offered at certain times of the year and in limited cohorts to allow for personal feedback and interaction. Don’t miss your chance, sign up today!

This course gives you comprehensive training in understanding, drafting, and creating ready to sew FPP patterns. You will learn the foundations of FPP patterns including the tools, shortcuts, and helpful tips to create easy to use templates for complex designs. You will develop drafting skills through a series of exercises, each concept building on the last, until knowing how to go from a picture to a a drawn pattern becomes second nature.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Understand all the elements to include in your FPP pattern- including numbering, seam allowances, and more

  • Know where and why to draw seam lines

  • Translate the skills you’ve learned into whatever software you prefer (or keep it analog- it's up to you!)

  • Be able to turn an image or photo into an FPP pattern

  • See how to stylize photos to make your pattern pop

  • Create a sewable FPP pattern

Melissa's course is the second class I've taken in designing FPP patterns. My other course was a one-day course and I don't think that's enough time to really soak up all the concepts of designing an FPP pattern. Melissa knows how to break it down into "bites" small enough to understand the concept before building onto the next. Being able to access the course at any time is great because you can stop, try the exercise, then start again as many times as needed. The exercises Melissa gave us were very appropriate for each skill! I highly recommend this course!

I love the class. The gradation from the simple to complex patterns is well done. I enjoy thinking how you'll do it and found that your way is simpler. I am learning well
